My name is Ross
Engler (44 years old). I am married to Tracy, and we have a 17
year old daughter, Sam.
I am Managing
Director of Sankyo Oilless SA P/L, and I will be riding my BMW GS
1150 Adventure.
I have varied
interests ranging from anything outdoors like over landing in our
Land Rover, traveling, camping and not forgetting a regular game
of golf.
I believe that I
am adventurous and goal driven, and this trip has been a dream of
mine for 2 years.
There are 3 of us
going on this trip and the basic route is around Zimbabwe. We will
be going through Botswana, Zambia, Malawi and then down to
Mozambique before heading home. Total distance is about 8000 kms.
We are going to
be totally self sufficient, carrying with us spare fuel, tyres,
camping equipment and a bit of food. On the route we have
identified some lodges where we can camp and maybe have a meal.
The idea is not to have a planned schedule, but a basic route and
then to see what happens.
If we really like
a place and do not feel like just passing through, we want to be
able to spend an extra day there. We will be visiting Vic Falls,
and are planning to do some kayaking on Lake Malawi. We then
venture down to the coast of Mozambique to spend time at Vilankulo.
For me it is all
about the adventure and the uncertainty of what is around the next
corner, and also the people you meet along the way. That is also
why we have kept the party small.
We have all had
our injections, got our malaria tablets, bike papers and a couple
of US Dollars, and are basically ready to go.
So, on the 31
March 2007, at the crack of dawn, we will be heading out on a very
long ride.
I have got a
journal and will be making notes of our trip for future reference.
